Residents of Bartow will soon have a new way to enjoy books and the outdoors as the city moves forward with plans for its first Story Trail behind the Bartow Public Library.

The project is a partnership between the library and the city’s Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department. It will feature a walking trail with reading stations that let visitors read a story as they move along the path, spending time outdoors.

City officials expect construction to be completed by November. In addition to the reading stations, plans include climbing features, benches, picnic tables, musical instruments, and other interactive elements designed for visitors of all ages.

Library officials say the project will expand the library’s programming beyond its building and provide a new outdoor gathering space for the community. The Bartow Public Library welcomes more than 70,000 visitors each year and offers programs for children, teens, and adults.

City leaders also expect the Story Trail to attract visitors from surrounding communities while encouraging reading and outdoor recreation. Library staff hopes the interactive trail will introduce more people to the library’s services and inspire them to borrow books and participate in library programs.

Officials said future plans include extending the Story Trail to connect with Mary Holland Park, creating a larger recreational and educational space for residents and visitors.
