The Seahorse Restaurant reopened this month after nearly 1-1/2 years of recovery work following hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024.
The 88-year-old beachfront restaurant, established in 1938, is considered an iconic fixture in Pass-a-Grille, according to owner and general manager Anayeri Gomez.
Hurricane Helene brought 7 feet of water into the building, and Hurricane Milton subsequently caused additional severe damage. The destruction was extensive enough that St. Pete Beach officials condemned the building.
After hundreds of thousands of dollars in renovations, the restaurant reopened on February 6. Gomez said they were able to restore the interior to match its previous appearance, preserving the same tables and décor longtime customers remember.
Regular patrons Michael and Sue Valind, who have visited the restaurant since 1983, expressed their satisfaction with the restoration. Many of the same employees returned to work at the reopened location, though some new staff were hired.
The restaurant is currently serving breakfast and lunch while operations return to normal capacity. Gomez said she is grateful to see the community returning to the establishment.
