With hurricane season just weeks away, a new AAA survey reveals that over a quarter of Florida residents are more concerned about the upcoming storms than they were last year.

The heightened concern follows a punishing 2024 season that brought three hurricanes ashore along Florida’s Gulf Coast.

According to the survey, 28% of respondents said they feel more worried about this year’s season, while 69% reported the same level of concern as in 2024—numbers that mirror last year’s results.

There’s also a slight increase in residents willing to evacuate if ordered: 77% this year, up from 73% before the 2024 season. Nearly one-third of those surveyed said they would leave for any major hurricane.

Forecasters are once again predicting an above-average season, prompting officials to stress the importance of early preparation.

“The severity of the 2024 hurricane season was a stark reminder of how vulnerable we are to natural disasters,” said Jennifer Pintacuda, president of AAA’s Florida-based insurance companies. “Now more than ever, it’s crucial for residents to revisit their insurance policies and ensure they are fully protected before the next storm approaches.”
