Amazon Bets on 2,000 Tampa Bay Holiday Hires, Up From Last Year

·

Amazon plans to hire more than 2,000 workers in the Tampa Bay area this holiday season, a private-sector hiring push that outpaces last year’s.

The company said it will add more than 300,000 seasonal, part-time, and full-time workers nationwide, including more than 21,000 in Florida. Last year, Amazon sought about 1,500 workers in the Tampa market and 250,000 nationally. New openings will be posted weekly through December.

On pay, Amazon said seasonal employees will earn an average of $20 an hour. Full-time operations workers start at a minimum of $20 an hour, with average pay across its core operations workforce at nearly $24. Total compensation for full-time employees exceeds $32 an hour when benefits are included.

Amazon also said it will extend healthcare benefits to eligible seasonal employees who work at least 30 hours a week, beginning in 2027. The hiring push follows an announced $1.5 billion in additional pay for its U.S. core operations workforce.

The company says its Florida footprint includes 35 fulfillment and sorting centers, 37 delivery stations, and an Amazon Air hub, supporting more than 57,000 direct jobs in the state.

The announcement marks the company’s first seasonal hiring increase in three years, as the National Retail Federation forecasts U.S. holiday sales to grow 4.2% to more than $1 trillion. For job seekers, these numbers come from Amazon’s announcement, and pay and schedules will vary by role and location.
