A 404-unit luxury apartment community on the Anclote River in Tarpon Springs opens Thursday after more than five years of planning, public hearings, and neighborhood opposition.
The Caroline at Anclote Harbor sits on about 72 acres. Developers say roughly 24 acres were set aside for buildings; more than 30 acres of wetlands and bald-eagle habitat remain undeveloped and were folded into the site plan. One-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments come with a clubhouse, pool, fitness center, nature trails, and river access. A statue of two eagles now marks the entrance.
The project was first proposed in 2021. Opponents cited wetlands and wildlife. Court records show the City of Tarpon Springs held more than 24 hours of public hearings before approving it. First tenants are expected this fall. A ribbon-cutting is set for 5 p.m. Thursday. Leasing has begun.
Developers say they intend to host resident events and work with local businesses. The opening adds hundreds of rental units in northern Pinellas after a long, formal review rather than an unexamined build-out of the entire parcel.
