Hillsborough County is expanding access to its storm recovery assistance program for homeowners still dealing with damage from Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

County officials have set aside $211 million through the Rebuilding for Tomorrow Homeowner Repair and Reconstruction Program, which provides financial assistance to eligible homeowners for repairs, reconstruction projects, and reimbursement for completed storm-related work. The funding is intended to help residents recover from damage caused during the 2024 hurricane season.

To improve access, the county is increasing outreach efforts and making application assistance available in more locations. Officials said the program will remain open until available funds are exhausted.

Homeowners seeking assistance must provide documentation showing they lived in the home when Hurricane Milton made landfall, along with proof of household income. Additional documentation requirements vary depending on whether applicants are requesting reimbursement for completed repairs or funding for work that has not yet been performed.

The assistance is funded through federal Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery dollars provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Hillsborough County received more than $700 million in disaster recovery funding to support long-term rebuilding and resilience efforts following widespread storm damage.
