The Florida legislator is set to vote today on a state budget after House and Senate leaders reached a tentative agreement earlier this week.
The spending plan, which takes effect July 1, comes in at nearly $115 billion — less than the Senate’s preferred figure but more than the $113.6 billion the House had sought.
Lawmakers have been working to approve a new budget after failing to reach a deal during the regular legislative session earlier this year. A budget must be in place by July 1.
Under the legislature’s required three-day cooling-off period, a full floor vote could not take place until today. Political analyst Chris Carmody told Spectrum News he expects the process to move quickly. He said both chambers are expected to convene around 10 a.m. in Tallahassee, debate the budget, and pass it before the end of the day, closing out the special session.
Once approved, the budget will be sent to Gov. Ron DeSantis. Among the key remaining details are the tax packages tied to the spending plan.
