Siesta Beach on Sarasota County’s Siesta Key has earned a spot on the World’s 50 Best Beaches list, making it the only American beach to appear among the global rankings.
The World’s 50 Best Beaches said its judges, beach ambassadors, and team explored beaches worldwide to compile the list. Siesta Beach came in at No. 42, recognized for its rare, powdery white sand. “This unique sand is one of the key features that sets Siesta Beach apart, often dubbed the ‘world’s finest, whitest sand,’” the organization noted.
The team also cited Siesta Key’s shallow, calm waters as ideal for swimming and wading, and highlighted the beach’s relatively undeveloped surroundings as a factor in preserving its natural beauty.
The recognition adds to a string of recent accolades for the Sarasota County beach. Siesta Key was named the No. 1 best beach in the United States in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 Best Vacations rankings, with the publication citing its white quartz sand and clear Gulf waters.
The sand at Siesta Beach is composed of 99% pure quartz, giving it its signature powdery white texture.
