The historic Tampa Theatre is preparing to close part of its facility this spring for a roughly $30 million renovation, city and theatre officials announced as the venue approaches its 100th anniversary in October 2026.
The project, part of the theatre’s “Second Century Campaign,” will focus on restoring decorative finishes in the auditorium, updating production and mechanical systems, and improving infrastructure such as HVAC and backstage facilities. The main auditorium is expected to be closed from early March through September for scaffolding and conservation work.
Funding for the campaign includes a $14 million contribution from the Downtown Tampa Community Redevelopment Agency and private donations, including a reported $250,000 grant from Bank of America. City officials said public support is intended to help leverage additional private funds.
To maintain programming during the renovation, the theatre continues to operate a smaller 43-seat screening room opened in 2024 for films and events.
Organizers and city leaders have described the restoration as both a historic preservation effort and an investment in downtown Tampa’s cultural and economic vitality. The auditorium is slated to reopen in time for the centennial celebration on October 15, 2026.
