The tropics remain calm as the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season enters its final weeks, with no tropical cyclone activity expected over the next seven days, according to the National Hurricane Center.
NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center recently identified an area in the western Caribbean with a low probability of tropical cyclone formation over the next two weeks.
Hurricane season officially ends November 30.
The current quiet period marks the end of what was an active 2024 season. The season produced 18 named storms, with 11 developing into hurricanes and five reaching major hurricane status at Category 3 strength or higher.
Tropical Storm Sara, which forecast models last week predicted would enter the Gulf of Mexico as a hurricane, dissipated over Central America on Monday. Its remnants merged with a cold front sweeping across the southeastern United States.
