Tropical Storm Jerry formed over the central Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Wednesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm was located about 1,315 miles east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands and is the 10th named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. Jerry is predicted to be a Category 1 hurricane when it makes its closest approach to the northern Leeward Islands on Thursday night and Friday.

Meanwhile, forecasters are also tracking a separate weather system in the Gulf of Mexico. The National Hurricane Center stated on Tuesday that a disorganized area of showers and storms could gradually develop as it moves across Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula and into the Bay of Campeche through Wednesday. Meteorologists have given the disturbance a low chance of developing.

Heavy rain is expected in the Yucatan Peninsula, parts of Mexico, and Belize in the coming days, regardless of whether the Gulf system develops.
