Last week, Tampa Bay Rays officials expressed optimism that the $312 million in bonds would be approved to keep the new stadium project on track. However, the outcome remains uncertain as the Pinellas County commission convenes on Tuesday.
Before the 2 p.m. meeting on Tuesday, the commission has requested confirmation that the Rays will fulfill their obligations regarding the new stadium.

The Rays are required to satisfy several funding and design conditions by March 31 to access these bonds. It’s not clear if this proof has been presented to the commission yet. Moreover, at least one commissioner is undecided about supporting the bonds.
Commissioner Dave Eggers emphasized the need for more information from the Rays during a recent workshop session.

“Perform what they’re supposed to perform and then this commissioner is likely to recognize the work that we did in July,” Eggers stated.
He was among the two who voted against the project in July. However, during last Thursday’s workshop, he suggested that the commission should adhere to its previous commitments to the Rays under the terms of the earlier approved agreement.
