On Thursday, the St. Petersburg City Council unanimously voted to initiate repairs for Tropicana Field, which suffered significant damage from Hurricane Milton.

City leaders approved $1.4 million for pre-construction activities and an additional $206,000 to hire a firm to plan the necessary repairs.

In early October, Hurricane Milton severely damaged The Trop, home of the Tampa Bay Rays since 1998, ripping off its roof. Repairs will include developing fabric to cover the roof, interior repairs, and work on the stadium lights.

Thursday’s vote was a preliminary step, with the city still considering additional millions for the actual repairs.

The new roof could be installed by the end of November, and new turf is expected to be ready by February 2026.

The Rays have already announced that they will play their 2025 regular season games at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa.
