With just over a week remaining in the 2024 hurricane season, the tropical activity seems to have settled.

The National Hurricane Center reports that no new tropical developments are expected in the next seven days.

This season has seen 18 named storms, 11 of which intensified into hurricanes. Among these, five reached major hurricane status (Category 3 or above).

What Happened to Sara?

Its remnants have since merged with a cold front sweeping across the southeastern United States.

How Many Hurricanes Have Hit Florida in November?

Florida has experienced four hurricanes making landfall in November since record-keeping began. These hurricanes are:

  1. Unnamed Hurricane in 1935
  2. Hurricane Kate in 1985
  3. Hurricane Nicole in 2022
  4. Hurricane Eta in 2020 (weakened to a tropical storm before landfall)

November hurricanes are quite rare because ocean temperatures typically start to cool, reducing the fuel needed for tropical development. However, with warming ocean temperatures, the odds of late-season hurricanes are increasing.
