Despite approaching the final weeks of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, two weather systems continue to draw forecasters’ attention: a diminishing Tropical Storm Rafael over the Gulf of Mexico and Invest 98L near the Bahamas.
Rafael, which first impacted Cuba last week, has been lingering in the Gulf but poses no significant threat to the United States. Meteorologists expect the system to dissipate by Monday.
Meanwhile, Invest 98L, a tropical disturbance being monitored by the National Hurricane Center (NHC), shows minimal potential for development. FOX Weather Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross explains, “The disturbed weather is the result of a weak tropical disturbance combined with a large upper-level low-pressure system, with little chance of organizing into a tropical depression.”
While development chances remain low, the Bahamas could experience periods of heavy rainfall through Sunday. The Atlantic hurricane season officially concludes on November 30.
