Stargazers in Florida have a thrilling celestial lineup this season, with a chance to catch “Halloween fireballs” as the Taurid meteor shower peaks through November. This rare show, known for its colorful fireballs, is followed by the renowned Geminid meteor shower in mid-December, promising a steady stream of meteors.

The Taurids, a unique meteor shower drawing from two debris streams, have been active for several weeks, especially in the Tampa Bay area. Recently, NASA scientists have noted fewer large asteroids within the Taurids’ “doomsday swarm” than initially thought, offering peace of mind while still bringing a stunning show overhead.

Clear skies are expected in Florida through early next week, offering ideal conditions for meteor watching. In addition to the Taurids, November also brings the final supermoon of the year on the 15th, as well as a chance to witness the northern lights due to an active solar cycle.

For the best viewing, look to the sky on November 5-6 and 11-12 when the Taurids will be most visible. As Earth’s orbit moves, keep an eye out for Geminids as they begin ramping up in late November, culminating in a dazzling display on December 13-14.
