Local city officials are cautioning residents to stay in their homes and not to venture out due to hazardous conditions. Here is a message from the City of Clearwater:
“Please stay in place and avoid venturing out right now, as many areas are without power and significant dangers remain, including downed power lines and fallen trees. Crews are currently assessing the damage and working to clear main roadways for emergency access.
If you absolutely must go out, do not attempt to drive or walk through floodwaters. Treat intersections with non-working traffic signals as four-way stops. If you see a downed power line, maintain a safe distance and call 9-1-1 with a clear location, as approaching it can be extremely dangerous. Please remember that there are many emergency and cleanup vehicles on the road, so if you absolutely must travel, proceed with caution.
Your safety is our priority, and recovery efforts are underway. We kindly ask for your cooperation in speeding up the cleanup process by staying off the roads.”
