Hernando County officials are moving forward with a series of improvements at Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport that they say could strengthen the local economy, attract new businesses, and create additional jobs.
The airport has been the focus of long-term redevelopment efforts aimed at expanding aviation facilities and increasing industrial and commercial development on airport property. County leaders view the airport as a key economic asset capable of supporting future business growth throughout the region.
Planned projects include new infrastructure, roadway improvements, expanded utility service, and additional aviation facilities. Officials say the upgrades are intended to make more property available for development while improving access and operations at the airport.
The county has pursued state and federal funding to help pay for portions of the work. Recent federal grant funding is expected to support infrastructure improvements that county leaders say will enhance the airport’s ability to attract private investment and expand economic opportunities.
Airport officials say the redevelopment strategy is aimed at supporting aviation-related businesses, as well as manufacturers and other industries seeking sites with direct airport access. More than 150 companies currently operate within the airport’s technology center, and officials believe additional infrastructure will make the property more competitive for future development.
County leaders say the improvements are part of a long-term plan rather than a single construction project. Work is expected to continue in phases over several years as funding becomes available and projects move through the planning and construction process.
Officials say they expect the investment to increase employment opportunities, expand the local tax base, and strengthen Hernando County’s position as a destination for aviation and business development.
