Tampa International Airport is planning a complete redesign of its second-floor ticketing level — the first such overhaul since it opened in 1971.
The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority recently approved a $25.44 million design-build contract with Austin Commercial LP to carry out the renovation.
The project will add more ticket counters to serve all 22 airlines at the airport, expand the queuing area near the counters, and increase the number of self-check-in kiosks available to travelers. To make room for the expanded public space, airline offices currently located behind ticket counters will be relocated to a new area that will be built as part of the renovation.
TPA senior communications manager Joshua Gillin said the changes are designed to improve the check-in experience for passengers. The airport says the renovation will give travelers more points of contact, including self-service kiosks and ticket agents.
Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and wrap up in 2029.
