Rain and thunderstorms are expected to move into the Tampa Bay area Monday evening, potentially affecting fans heading to the Tampa Bay Rays game, forecasters said.

The local teams issued a Weather Impact Alert from 5 p.m. Monday through 11 a.m. Tuesday, warning of periods of rain and storms across the region.

Conditions are expected to deteriorate during the evening commute, with an increased chance of showers and thunderstorms as moisture builds over the area. The unsettled weather could create travel delays and wet conditions for those attending the game.

Despite the potential for storms outside, the Rays play at Tropicana Field, an indoor stadium in St. Petersburg, meaning the game itself is not expected to be directly impacted by rain.

Forecasters say the system is expected to move through overnight, with improving conditions by Tuesday morning as the rain clears out of the region.

Officials advise residents and fans to monitor weather updates and plan for possible delays when traveling to and from the game.
