The pier at R.E. Olds Park in Oldsmar is expected to fully reopen within two weeks, following roughly 18 months of partial closure due to damage sustained during the 2024 hurricane season.
Hurricanes Helene and Milton damaged the pilings and deck at the end of the 400-foot pier, prompting an engineer inspection and temporary closure. The first 80% of the structure reopened in July 2025, but the final section remained off-limits until construction began about a week and a half ago.
The $125,000 repair project involves installing new pilings, a new frame, new decking, and handrails, according to Oldsmar Parks and Recreation Director Chip Potts.
The pier is a popular gathering spot for residents who use it for fishing, watching sunrises and sunsets, and enjoying waterfront views. Potts said the city hopes to have the pier finished in time for the Oldsmar Days and Nights festival, which begins April 10.
