The St. Pete Beach City Commission met Tuesday evening to discuss a parking rate increase that could generate nearly $2 million in additional annual revenue for the city.
Under the proposal, all paid parking spaces would rise by at least $1 per hour, bringing rates to $5 per hour Monday through Thursday and $6 per hour Friday through Sunday. The city currently collects about $5.5 million per year from metered parking.
Commissioners also considered several additional surcharges: a $1 per hour “sunset rate” between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., a $1 per hour seasonal surcharge from February 1 through April 30, and holiday and special event rates ranging from $40 to $75 per parking session, set on a case-by-case basis.
The agenda also included eliminating the separate parking rate at the county park and applying the city’s standard rates in its place.
The commission meeting was held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. No vote outcome has been reported, as the discussion is ongoing.
