The Florida House approved a wide-ranging tax relief bill on Thursday by a vote of 105-2, and the state Senate unanimously passed the measure the following day with minor amendments. The legislation, HB 7031, now heads back to the House for concurrence before being sent to the governor’s desk. If signed into law, it would take effect July 1.
The bill covers several areas of tax policy. On sales taxes, it would permanently exempt small propane tanks from the sales tax and temporarily exempt home hurricane-hardening products — such as impact-resistant doors and windows — through June 2028. A two-year exemption for a range of firearm accessories is also included.
The legislation would shift Florida’s permanent back-to-school sales tax holiday from August to the July 20–August 20 window, and would establish a new “Hunting, Fishing and Camping” sales tax holiday running from September 1 through December 31, covering items such as firearms, ammunition, fishing tackle, and camping gear within set price limits.
On property taxes, the bill would cap annual assessment increases for certain mobile home parks at 3%, extend a property tax exemption for Space Florida-related projects, and allow homeowners to transfer their Save Our Homes benefit from a homestead abandoned within the prior three years.
The bill also creates a new Homebuyer Workforce Tax Credit for businesses that assist low-income employees in purchasing homes, offers a temporary exemption from the tax on flood insurance policies through June 2029, and extends the existing Child Care Tax Credit Program for three additional years.
