The Museum of Science and Industry has officially changed its name to the Museum of Science and Innovation while retaining the MOSI acronym it has used for more than four decades.

The rebranding was announced Tuesday during a science-themed ceremony at the museum’s North Tampa campus near the University of South Florida. Museum President and CEO John Graydon Smith said the new name better reflects the institution’s current direction and future goals.

Along with the name change, MOSI has opened new learning facilities, including a digital content lab and expanded STEAM learning spaces. The museum has also launched a temporary interactive exhibit titled “Leonardo da Vinci: Machines in Motion,” which features 40 life-sized machines based on the Renaissance inventor’s original designs.

Officials emphasized that the name change does not affect the museum’s location or identity. MOSI will continue operating from its current North Tampa site.

The updates come as redevelopment plans continue to develop around the MOSI campus.
