Florida health officials announced in early January 2026 that state testing found elevated levels of heavy metals in 16 of 24 infant formulas tested.
The Department of Health tested 24 formulas for contaminants, with 16 having at least one heavy metal that exceeded federal standards, First Lady Casey DeSantis said during a January 9 press conference in Bartow.
Mercury was the most common toxin found above federal limits in 16 formulas, with arsenic exceeding benchmarks in five formulas, cadmium in three, and lead in two, according to state Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo.
Similac Soy Isomil powder had the highest levels of toxins, including arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury. Two other formulas, Enfamil Prosobee and Enfamil Infant NeuroPro Ready to Use, showed three toxins above benchmarks.
The testing is part of Florida’s “Make America Healthy Again” initiative led by Casey DeSantis and Lt. Gov. Jay Collins. Officials said the results are posted on the website exposingfoodtoxins.com to give parents accessible information about products marketed to infants.
