Real estate developer Strategic Property Partners announced plans to build a new entertainment district in the heart of downtown Tampa, across from the Benchmark International Arena on Channelside Drive, between Morgan and Jefferson streets.
The development will include a 3,500-seat concert venue designed for emerging artists, a 250-room hotel, retail space, and parking for more than 1,000 vehicles. Developers say the venue will serve as a stepping stone for artists before they perform at larger Tampa-area arenas.
Local residents and business owners have mixed reactions to the project. Andrew Robinson, a barista at nearby Shortwave Coffee, expressed concerns about increased traffic, noting that busy days already extend his five-minute commute to half an hour. However, resident Aubrey Glover welcomed the addition, saying more entertainment and socializing options would benefit the community.
Mayor Jane Castor stated the Water Street expansion strengthens tourism and creates new experiences for residents and visitors. Developers aim to break ground in 2027.
