St. Petersburg officials provided media a tour of Tropicana Field on December 3, showing repair progress after Hurricane Milton severely damaged the stadium in October 2024.

The facility’s new roof was completed on November 20, with the final panel of 24 installed. Work has now shifted to interior renovations including clubhouses, the playing field, video boards, and fan areas such as seating and concessions.

The stadium was left unplayable for the 2025 season, forcing the Rays to spend the year at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. The team is scheduled to return to the Tropicana Field for their April 6 opening day.

St. Petersburg architect Raul Quintana said officials are confident the work will be completed ahead of schedule. The facility, which opened in 1990, currently shows extensive construction activity with workers installing drywall, securing seats, replacing electrical panels, and adjusting lighting.

Beyond basic repairs, the Rays are adding improvements, including a new video board and sound system, premium seating areas, and upgrades to the centerfield Porch social area. Team offices are also being repaired.

The St. Petersburg City Council approved $59.7 million for the repair project. Insurance has covered $7.65 million so far, with discussions ongoing regarding potential reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The Rays have a lease to play at Tropicana Field through 2028. Under new ownership, they are exploring locations for a new stadium as part of a larger entertainment, retail, and housing development planned to open in 2029.
