Gas prices across the state of Florida have declined in recent weeks, but the trend is not expected to continue, according to AAA.
The state average dropped 19 cents per gallon over the past two weeks, reaching $2.92 per gallon on Sunday. That price is 10 cents lower than the previous week, three cents higher than last month, and 13 cents below this time last year.
However, AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins warned that prices will likely increase soon. He noted a consistent pattern over the past year where two consecutive weeks of price declines are typically followed by increases of 10 to 20 cents per gallon.
Jenkins attributed this to normal price-cycling behavior as retailers adjust prices to attract customers and remain competitive. Florida gas prices have ranged from $2.84 to $3.23 per gallon so far this year.
Oil prices have also been trending upward, with crude oil rising 4% over the past two weeks, which could contribute to higher prices at the pump.
Regional averages show Hillsborough County at $2.89 per gallon and Polk County at $2.90 per gallon.
