Florida gas prices jumped significantly last week after a period of drops, according to AAA.

The state average increased from $2.84 per gallon last Monday to $2.96 per gallon on Wednesday, though prices then dropped to $2.92 per gallon by Sunday. This represents a 6.5-cent increase from the previous week and 21 cents more than the same time last year.

AAA attributed the overall low prices to decreased seasonal demand, a global oversupply of oil, and the switch to winter-blend gasoline.

The most expensive gas in Florida is found in West Palm Beach-Boca Raton at $3.09 per gallon, followed by Gainesville at $2.98 and Naples at $2.97. The cheapest prices are in Pensacola at $2.73, Crestview-Fort Walton Beach at $2.74, and Panama City at $2.77.

Mark Jenkins, a spokesman for AAA’s Auto Club Group, noted that Florida gas prices continue to fluctuate weekly, with last week’s increase following a 13-cent drop over nine days.
