A burn ban is now in effect for unincorporated areas of Citrus County, Florida, prohibiting residents from setting fire to forests, grasslands, marshes, vegetation, and agricultural lands.
The ban also prohibits burning yard waste, household garbage, debris, campfires, and bonfires. However, residents can still use grills, including those at parks.
The ban will automatically be lifted once the Keetch-Byram Drought Index remains below 500 for seven consecutive days. The index measures drought conditions and fire potential based on soil moisture deficit.
