Construction is underway at Clearwater Beach Municipal Marina as part of a $43.5 million reconstruction project that aims to modernize the facility used by charter boats, tour companies, and fishermen.

The project will add 165 new boat slips, ticket kiosks, a marina walk and an updated fuel office. Pinellas County is contributing $7.5 million toward the cost through a capital improvement partnership.

The marina was scheduled for upgrades before Hurricanes Helene and Milton caused additional damage to docks and facilities last year. Captain Kevin Massiwer of Captain Memo’s Pirate Cruise described the post-storm scene, saying docks “looked like a rollercoaster,” with some booths damaged or underwater.

Phase one, focusing on the western portion of the marina, is expected to finish in December. However, some businesses report the construction has impacted their operations. Massiwer said his company’s location has become harder for customers to find, noting they’ve received calls asking if they’re still operating.

Despite current challenges, marina tenants say they’re optimistic the improvements will increase customer traffic once completed. After the west side work finishes, east side tenants will temporarily relocate while crews begin the next construction phase. The full project is scheduled to continue through 2026.
