Approximately 50 units at The Morgan apartment complex in South St. Petersburg have been deemed unsafe to occupy following repeated failed fire inspections, according to the city’s fire marshal and fire department. Residents must vacate by Sunday due to what officials describe as an “imminent threat to the life and safety of occupants.”
Five buildings in the complex were found to have inoperable fire alarms during a routine inspection in July, a violation of state law. The violations persisted through multiple months of inspections.
“What are we supposed to do? Where am I supposed to go? There’s 50 some apartments on that list that have to vacate in seven days,” said Zane Bowman, a resident who is in the process of moving out.
The management company, Lurin Real Estate Holdings, has faced previous issues with the property. Earlier in 2025, residents protested at City Hall after the city threatened to shut off water service due to nearly $500,000 in unpaid water bills attributed to the management company.
Lurin Real Estate Holdings employees were not present at the property during reporting, and calls for comment were not returned.
