The Florida Public Service Commission has approved a rate hike for local utility provider Tampa Electric that will take effect in January, resulting in an approximately $5.50 monthly increase for customers.
Tampa Electric customers have already been paying higher costs over the past year to cover storm recovery expenses. These storm-related charges will continue through next summer, with bills expected to decrease somewhat in September 2026.
In contrast, Duke Energy customers will see a reduction in their bills starting in March, with an expected decrease of $44 per 1,000 kilowatt hours used, following PSC approval of the utility’s rate reduction request.
