The Indian Shores Town Council held its Oct. 14 meeting with several unanimous votes, including the recognition of a longtime police retiree, approval of board reappointments, and the expansion of paid parking throughout the town.

The council passed a resolution recognizing Florida City Week, observed statewide Oct. 20–26, to promote civic education and volunteerism. In honor of the event, Mayor Diantha Schear said her weekly Mayor’s Message will now include a monthly spotlight on a council or staff member to help residents get to know town leadership.

Council members also approved board reappointments, extending John Caruso’s term on the Police Pension Board and Suzanne Lynch’s term on the Board of Adjustments and Appeals, both through October 2028.

Town Clerk Freddie Lozano outlined qualification details for the upcoming March 10, 2026, municipal election, which will fill two council seats. Candidates must be permanent residents and registered voters in the town for at least one year. The qualifying period runs from Dec. 5–12, 2025.

The council approved updates to the employee manual to align leave policies with the town’s fiscal year, and passed an ordinance removing the special magistrate’s authority to hear appeals of parking citations.

Police Chief Lee Ann Holroyd requested the town formally honor retired Reserve Lt. Michael Krohn, who served nearly 26 years with the Indian Shores Police Department. Due to an oversight, Krohn had not received his service firearm upon retirement. The council voted unanimously to return the firearm in recognition of his years of service.

Additionally, the town expanded paid parking to five more areas effective Oct. 1, including 186th Avenue West, East Park at 186th Avenue, 199th Avenue East and West, and Second Street near the Community Gardens.

Next month’s council meeting will be held Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. due to the Veterans Day holiday.
