A Florida state representative has filed legislation that would provide $1,000 annual payments to qualifying homeowners for five years as property tax relief.
State Rep. Jeff Holcomb, a Republican from Spring Hill, filed House Bill 71, which would begin distributing checks in 2026 to homesteaded homeowners with properties valued between $100,000 and $450,000.
The proposal is one of several bills expected during the January legislative session focused on property taxes, identified as a priority by the governor and House Republicans. Democrats have announced their own affordability measures, focusing on homeowners’ insurance.
Sen. Lori Berman, a Democrat from Boynton Beach, said residents have repeatedly been told conditions would improve but haven’t seen results.
