Cushman & Wakefield announced plans to develop an air taxi vertiport in Tampa, partnering with VertiPorts by Atlantic to establish facilities for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft across major U.S. metro areas.
The proposed vertiport would service passenger aircraft designed for short trips around the Tampa Bay Area, comparable to typical ride-sharing distances. The eVTOL technology aims to reduce traffic congestion and lower aviation’s carbon footprint through quiet, electric-powered operations.
Tampa International Airport has been exploring the concept and hosted Florida’s first air taxi test flight less than two years ago. Volocopter, which conducted that initial test, has expressed interest in operating eVTOLs in Florida.
Cushman & Wakefield stated that property for construction could be secured as soon as this year. The technology remains in early development stages with operational logistics still being finalized.
“Our vision is to reimagine urban connectivity by creating the infrastructure to support passenger eVTOL operations,” said Kevin Cox, CEO of VertiPorts by Atlantic, describing the initiative as an investment in sustainable transportation offering “faster, cleaner and more efficient mobility options.”
