The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is planning a major closure of I-275 in downtown Tampa the weekend of October 4–6, 2025 to facilitate construction on the Downtown Interchange (I-275/I-4) project.
From 12:01 a.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Monday, all northbound lanes of I-275 through the interchange will be shut, and only one southbound lane will remain open. The ramp from southbound I-275 to eastbound I-4 will remain open.
During the closure, FDOT will deploy electronic message boards and temporary signage to guide motorists along detour routes. For example:
- Northbound drivers are advised to exit to I-4 (Exit 45B), then proceed via Columbus Drive, US 41, and Hillsborough Avenue to re-enter northbound I-275.
- Southbound motorists wanting downtown access (Exit 45A) should exit at 46A, turn right onto Floribraska Avenue, then left onto Tampa Street.
FDOT says the closure is needed so crews can install steel girders for a new two-lane bridge linking southbound I-275 to eastbound I-4.
Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes and expect delays within the downtown corridor over the weekend.
