Floridians who suffered storm damage last year from the 2024 hurricane season are facing fast-approaching deadlines to file insurance claims.

According to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, more than 436,000 claims have already been submitted from the storms. But for those who haven’t filed yet, time is running out. State law allows one year from the date of loss to open a claim.

For Hurricane Helene, the deadline is September 26, while claims related to Hurricane Milton must be filed by October 9.

The rules don’t just cover homes. Vehicle owners with comprehensive auto insurance who suffered storm-related damage must also meet the same deadlines.

After an initial claim is filed, policyholders have 18 months from the date of loss to submit supplemental claims for additional damages that may be discovered during or after repairs.
