The Sarasota-Manatee campus of the University of South Florida has unveiled plans for a new STEM academic facility that will serve students from all USF campuses.
The project follows the expiration of the campus’s lab space lease with Mote Marine Laboratory in May 2025 and received unanimous approval from the USF Board of Trustees Finance Committee last month.
Estimated at $6.5 million, the facility will provide dedicated laboratories and learning spaces for disciplines such as nursing and other STEM programs.
“This project represents a major step forward in our commitment to STEM education and student success,” said Interim Regional Chancellor Brett E. Kemker. “It will eliminate the need for off-campus lab leases, reduce travel burdens for students and faculty, and support the growth of key academic programs.”
Construction is scheduled to begin within the next 12 to 18 months, with the facility expected to open in fall 2027.
