Hillsborough County homeowners have another chance to apply for federal help in repairing storm-damaged homes.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in partnership with the state of Florida, is offering assistance through the Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) program. The funding is also available to residents who were previously denied through the state’s Elevate Florida Grant program.
Because the FMA program is reimbursement-based, homeowners must first cover the upfront repair costs. Officials caution the program is highly competitive, with the full process—from initial application to project completion—often taking five to 10 years.
Applications are due Monday, Aug. 18.
