After years of waiting, millions of Facebook users are finally set to receive their share of the massive $725 million privacy settlement.
Angeion, the company overseeing the payments, confirmed that distribution will begin in August 2025 and continue for about 10 weeks.
The case stems from allegations that Facebook allowed users’ personal data to be shared with third parties, most notably Cambridge Analytica — a consulting firm tied to Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. Meta, Facebook’s parent company, agreed to settle in 2023, with nearly anyone who had a U.S. Facebook account between 2007 and 2022 eligible to claim a payment.
Roughly 28 million claims were filed, and by late 2023, Angeion had validated at least 17 million of them — which attorneys say may be the largest number ever in a U.S. class action. Because of the huge number of participants, the median payout is expected to be about $30, with exact amounts depending on how long each recipient had an active account.
Approved claimants who met the August 2023 filing deadline will get their money via the method they selected — direct deposit, PayPal, or a prepaid gift card.
The nearly two-year delay in issuing payments was due to multiple appeals, both of which were resolved in May 2025. Angeion has not yet disclosed the final number of approved claims or the exact date the first payments will be sent.
