After a year-long pause, the My Safe Florida Home grant program is once again accepting applications starting Monday morning.

The state-run program offers free wind mitigation inspections and up to $10,000 in matching grant funds for eligible homeowners making approved storm-hardening improvements.

This year, the Florida Legislature allocated $280 million to the initiative, which is expected to support roughly 45,000 homeowners.

Program Director Steven Fielder said the new funding should cover applicants who’ve been waiting since last year, along with the first wave of new applicants who meet the updated income and age requirements.

Who Can Apply and When?

Applicants will be accepted in phases based on age and income level:

  • Aug. 4, 2025: Age 60+ with low income
  • Aug. 18, 2025: All other low-income applicants
  • Sept. 1, 2025: Age 60+ with moderate income
  • Sept. 15, 2025: All other moderate-income applicants
  • Sept. 29, 2025: General applications for free inspections only

Income definitions:

  • Low income: ≤ 80% of the county’s median household income
  • Moderate income: < 120% of the county’s median household income

Fielder added that the application portal has been updated based on user feedback to make the process smoother and more accessible.

“We’ve made some changes to improve navigation and clarity,” Fielder said in an interview with WPTV-TV.
