As summer temperatures soar, many Floridians are feeling the impact on their utility bills from running air conditioners and lawn sprinklers. To help ease that burden, Tampa Bay Water has launched a new pilot program offering rebates for upgrading sprinkler systems.

The initiative is designed to lower water bills, improve irrigation efficiency, and reduce water waste throughout the region. Homeowners in Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas counties — including residents of Tampa, St. Petersburg, and New Port Richey — who use potable water for lawn irrigation are eligible to apply.

“We know residents want to maintain healthy, green lawns,” Tampa Mayor Jane Castor said in a statement. “That’s why we’re offering tools, resources, and expert advice to help them make the most of every drop.”

Amelia Brown, demand management program manager for Tampa Bay Water, said the rebate program is intended to motivate homeowners to assess and improve their current systems. “This makes it easy to save water and money while still keeping a beautiful landscape,” she said.

To participate, homeowners must follow these four steps:

  1. Hire an approved contractor: Select from a list of seven licensed Irrigation Specialty Contractors provided by Tampa Bay Water Wise.
  2. Schedule an evaluation: The contractor will assess the current system and recommend eligible improvements. The program offers a $50 rebate to offset the evaluation fee.
  3. Approve and complete the work: Once the upgrades are completed, the homeowner will receive an itemized receipt and a Contractor Rebate Form, which both parties must sign.
  4. Submit your application: Apply online by September 30, including all required documentation. Each household is limited to one rebate application, so all upgrades should be completed beforehand.
