This figure, based on one-bedroom apartment rents and local childcare rates, places Tampa 10th among major cities, where such expenses consume 36% of the median renter’s income. 

Nationally, childcare costs have risen 10% annually since 2020, outpacing rent increases of 7%. High-cost cities like San Francisco ($5,952) and New York ($5,925) top the list, driven by steep childcare expenses, while Tampa’s affordability challenges highlight the growing financial burden on young families.
