Walt Disney World may eventually welcome a fifth major theme park—though not anytime soon.
A newly released planning document from the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, the board responsible for land use and development at the resort, outlines the potential for significant future expansion.
According to the district’s comprehensive plan, up to 500 acres have been designated for a new “major” theme park that could be developed after 2035. If built, it would be the resort’s first new theme park since Animal Kingdom opened in 1998.
The plan also sets aside land for two additional “minor” parks, such as water parks, with a possible timeline extending to 2045. Additional parcels are reserved for hotels, commercial spaces, and entertainment facilities.
While these possibilities have appeared in long-term planning documents for years, Disney has not confirmed or released any specific details about future projects.
