Hillsborough County officials are inviting residents to weigh in on how to use more than $700 million in federal hurricane recovery funding.

The county expects to receive $709 million in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds to support long-term recovery from hurricanes Idalia, Debby, Helene, and Milton. At least 70% of the funds must benefit low- to moderate-income communities.

The current plan outlines several proposed programs to address unmet needs in key areas, including:

  • Repairs and replacements for single and multifamily homes
  • New multifamily housing construction
  • Housing for special needs populations
  • Housing-related infrastructure
  • Workforce development
  • Business infrastructure
  • Public services
  • Long-term planning

Community meetings will be held from 6–8 p.m. at the following locations and dates:

  • June 4 – Pierce Middle School
  • June 5 – C. Blythe Andrews Jr. Library
  • June 9 – Jan Kaminis Platt Regional Library
  • June 10 – Emanuel P. Johnson Recreation Center
  • June 12 – Maureen Gauzza Library
  • June 13 – Lennard High School
  • June 17 – Roy Haynes Park Recreation Center
  • June 18 – Sayde Gibbs Martin Community Center
  • June 23 – Victor Crist Community Center

Residents can also share their feedback online at HCFL.gov/HCEngage.

Public input will be reviewed and incorporated before the final plan is presented to the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners on July 16 for approval. It will then be submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
