With hurricane season beginning this Sunday, Visit Central Florida is getting ahead of the storms by launching its annual Hurricane Prep Week, offering free resources to help local families get ready.
Throughout the week, families who stop by the center will receive a complimentary hurricane preparedness bag. Each bag contains vital items including a Polk County shelter map, a hurricane readiness checklist, a flashlight, and first aid kits donated by Orlando Health — along with other useful emergency tools.
The initiative aims to ensure that both residents and visitors know where to turn for help during hurricane season.
“It’s all about teamwork,” said Justin Laferriere, Senior Visitor Services Manager. “Thanks to a strong partnership with Publix, we’ve distributed 90,000 shelter maps across Polk County to make sure this information reaches as many people as possible.”
The kits not only help families stay safe but also offer guidance on securing homes before a storm hits.
Preparedness bags are available for pickup starting Monday through June 1. Families are limited to one bag each. If you miss the week, you can still stop by the center to pick up a shelter map any day.
Visit Central Florida’s Welcome Center is located at 101 Adventure Court in Davenport, just half a mile south of I-4 at Exit 55.
