As Memorial Day weekend approaches, gas prices across the state of Florida have dropped, just in time for what AAA expects to be a record-breaking travel period.

According to AAA’s holiday forecast, an estimated 2.6 million Floridians will travel at least 50 miles, with 2.3 million of them hitting the road.

“With so many motorists fueling up, we could see some price fluctuations,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Still, even at their highest, prices are expected to stay well below what we saw during last year’s holiday weekend.”

As of Sunday, the average price for a gallon of gas in Florida was $3.05 — 46 cents cheaper than the state average on Memorial Day in 2024.

Last week, prices jumped 20 cents from $2.92 to $3.21, but have since dropped by 7 cents heading into the weekend, AAA said.

West Palm Beach-Boca Raton recorded the highest average in the state at $3.22, followed by Ocala at $3.13. Hillsborough County averaged $3.09, while drivers in Pinellas County paid around $3.07 per gallon.
