Cycle Brewing, a cornerstone of St. Pete’s craft beer movement, will close its iconic taproom at 534 Central Avenue this month after serving the community for over a decade.

Brewmaster and founder Doug Dozark shared the news on social media, citing an expiring lease as the reason for the closure. While the exact closing date is unclear, Dozark indicated it could happen “within a week or by month’s end.”

The brewery isn’t disappearing entirely. Cycle will continue operations at its warehouse facility at 2135 5th Avenue South, near the Pinellas Trail. The site, currently used for bottling and production, may soon offer retail sales and possibly on-site consumption. “We’re working on permits and hope to open something at the warehouse by summer,” Dozark told St. Pete Rising.

Known for its bold barrel-aged stouts with flavors like maple, cinnamon, and hazelnut, Cycle has built a devoted following. The brewery also crafts IPAs, sours, and unique small-batch beers. Dozark launched Cycle in 2013 after honing his skills at his mother’s Gulfport restaurant, Peg’s Cantina, making it downtown St. Pete’s first craft brewery.

The closure marks the end of an era for the region’s thriving beer scene, which now boasts nearly 50 breweries.

Cycle’s name, inspired by Dozark’s love of cycling, reflects life’s broader journeys. Whether the warehouse location will retain the Cycle Brewing name is still under consideration, as Dozark noted the new space may differ significantly from the original.

Fans have flooded social media with heartfelt reactions, sharing memories of first dates, weddings, and cross-state pilgrimages to the taproom. “Cycle was why we drove hours to St. Pete,” one fan wrote.

The taproom remains open for now with regular hours:

  • Monday–Thursday: 3 p.m.–10 p.m.
  • Friday–Saturday: 12 p.m.–12 a.m.
  • Sunday: 12 p.m.–10 p.m.
