While concerns about road rage, boating incidents, and even gun violence persist across Florida, a new report finds that around 10 percent fewer residents experienced such incidents compared to previous years.
SafeWise, a platform specializing in security product reviews, analyzed FBI crime data from municipalities across the state for its 11th annual “Safest Cities in Florida” report. Thirty-three towns met the criteria for inclusion in the rankings.
For the second consecutive year, Marco Island—a barrier island off the coast of Naples—earned the title of Florida’s safest city. The rest of the top 10 also saw little change, with all other cities having appeared on the list in recent years.
Together, the top 10 safest cities reported only two murders.
Top Five Safest Cities
- Marco Island
- Safety Harbor
- Wildwood
- Dunedin
- Pensacola
Four cities—Marco Island, Safety Harbor, Wildwood, and Dunedin—reported zero murders. Additionally, Marco Island and Wildwood reported no robberies.
However, all ten cities reported at least two incidents of rape.
Interestingly, Pensacola, despite having a population three times larger than Marco Island, recorded fewer burglaries than the state’s top-ranked city. But, for now, two of the five best cities in Florida are right here in Tampa Bay.
